Red sandalwood worth Rs 2.5 lakh seized

Tirupati, Nov 29 (UNI) The forest officials seized 70 logs of red sandalwood, worth Rs 2.5 lakh and impounded the mini-van which was carrying the logs, at Karakampadi forest area here.

Sub-Divisional Officer Ravi Kumar told UNI that while the forest range officer Reddappa and two forest employees were conducting routine checkup in the forest area, they had seen a speedy van going towards Chennai. They chased the van. However, the van driver and another person stopped the vehicle and managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

The van and logs were seized and the police registered a case.
