Petrol, diesel prices cut by Rs 2, Re1 respectively

New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) The Government today reduced the prices of petrol by Rs 2 a litre and diesel by Re 1 a litre in view of the softening of prices in the international market.

The decision will come into effect from midnight tonight.

An announcement to this effect was made in the Rajya Sabha by Petroleum Minister Murli Deora.

In a suo motu statement, Mr Deora said the prices were being slashed in response to the request made by Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for protecting the interests of the consumers.
