Maharashtra, Mumbai take first innings lead

Jamshedpur, Nov 29 (UNI) A fine unbeaten century (108) by Ganesh Gaekwad helped Maharashtra take a slender 13-run first innings lead against Uttar Pradesh on the penultimate day of the three-day Cooch Behar trophy Elite group A tie at Keenan stadium here today.

At stumps, Maharashtra were 256 for six in reply to UP's first innings total 243 all out.

Gaekwad's unbeaten kncok comprised 13 boundaries. Pravin Deshetty was the second highest run getter scoring 38 followed by Nikhil Paradkar (27). Shrikant Mundhe remained not out on six.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck twice for 68 runs while the remaining four bowlers bagged one wicket apiece.

Earlier, resuming at overnight 239 for nine, UP could only add four runs as unbeaten batsman Mohammad Khalid was out for 36.

Srikant Mundhe scalped the last wicket to finish his spell 55 for four. Aditya Dole also got four for 60 runs.

In another match, Tamil Nadu were skittled out for 227 in their first innings in reply to Mumbai's first innings total of 364 all out.

Mumbai earned 137 runs first innings lead and 203 runs ahead after scoring 66 for two in the second knock.

For Tamil Nadu Surya Prakash scored highest 82 runs with the help of ten fours. A.Mukund scored 38 runs.

B Patel and I Abdullah bagged three wickets each conceding 39 and 44 runs respectively.
