Maharaja Kirit Bikram cremated today
Agartala, Nov 29 (UNI) The mortal remains of Maharaja Kirit Bikram Kishore Manilya were consigned to flames today.
All state dignitaries, including Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and his cabinet colleagues, along with opposition Congress leaders were present at the funeral.
AICC Secretary Sanjay Bapna was also present at the funeral.
Mr Sarkar expressed deep grief at the death of the Maharaja. In his message, Mr Sarkar sympathised with the bereaved family.
Governor Dinesh Nandan Sahaya also expressed his heartfelt condolence.
He recalled the Maharaja's distinguished services rendered to the state as a Parliamentarian and former ruler of Tripura Raj.
Pradesh Congress Committee president Samir Ranjan Burman in his condolence message recalled the contribution of the Maharaja in bringing ONGC to the state.
He also recalled the role played by the Maharaja during 1980 riot.
The state Government declared a government holiday today as a mark of last respect to the departed soul.
All government offices, schools, banks, business establishments remained closed.
The national flag was seen flying at half mast.
