Left, Congress leaders leave for Cuba

New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) A high-level three member delegation comprising Left leaders, A B Bardhan and Prakash Karat and AICC General Secretary Margret Alva have left for Cuba to participate in the 50th anniversary of 'Granma Arrival', the boat that heralded the beginning of the Cuban revolution.

They will also meet Cuban president Fidel Castro, who has completed 80 years of age, CPI National Secretary Shamim Faizi told UNI today.

CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat and his counterpart in the CPI were to go to Hawana before the NAM Summit but as Mr Castro was to have an operation, they postponed it, Mr Faizi added.

The delegation will also hold discussions with the Cuban government and Communist Party leaders on bilateral issues as well as the possiblity of a more active role of the the Non Aligned Movement group, which is presently headed by Cuba.
