Journos protest against K'taka Minister

Mysore, Nov 29 (UNI) The Mysore District Journalists Association, Reporters Guild and electronic mediapersons today staged a protest in front of the Superintendent of Police office, protesting against Karnataka Forests Minister Chennigappa manhandling a Kannada daily reporter covering the campaigning for the Chamundeswari Assembly byelection.

Members of the scribe associations assembled in front of the SP office and shouted slogans against the Minister and the Janata Dal (S) workers who accompanied him.

Kannada daily 'Mysore Mithra' Reporter K Kiran Kumar lodged a complaint with the Mysore South police station against Mr Chennigappa and others for having beaten him up while he attempted to click photos of the Election Commission officials checking the pass of the cars following the Minister at Hadajana cross in Mysore taluk.

In his complaint, Mr Kumar said his camera was taken away by the Minister and when he pleaded to return the same, the Minister abused and threatened him.

Meanwhile, a tense situation prevailed when JD(S) MLC Y S V Datta tried to explain the situation at the Press Club here, with the scribes and the leader having heated exchanges.

The Associations decided to cancel all the press conferences of JD(S) in the Press Club from tomorrow.
