International Conference on Industrial Tribology from tomorrow

Bangalore, Nov 29 (UNI) More than 300 delegates from India and abroad will participate in a three-day International Conference on Industrial Tribology, organised by Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Department of Mechanical Engineering, to be held here from tomorrow, Conference Organising Secretary Prof S K Biswas said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said that the Conference, a biennial event, hitherto organised by Industry, was for the first time organised by the IISc.

More than 175 papers would be presented and deliberated upon by world's leading tribologists and delegates from India and from nine countries, he added.

Conference Organising Secretary (Technical) Prof Satish V Kailas said tribology, relating to friction, was the branch of science and technology concerned with surfaces in relative motion. The Conference would be a forum in which people from the academia and industry meet and discuss on various issues of tribology.

Replying to a question, Prof Kailas said that the Conference was of greater importance as in the country four per cent of the gross loss in the industry was due to lack of development of tribology.

The conference was being sponsored by leading industries including BPCL, HPCL, ICOL, Balmer Lawrie and Co, DST, CSIR, BRNS, TVS Motor Co, L&t, GE, INSA and CSIC (IISc).

Vishveshwaraya Technical University Vice Chancellor Dr Balaveera Reddy would inaugurate the Conference.
