EU to suspend Turkey goods, services talks-source
RUSSELS, Nov 29 (Reuters) The European Commission decided today to suspend eight chapters of Turkey's European Union membership talks over its failure to open its ports to traffic from Cyprus, a source familiar with the decision said.
''The eight chapters are: free movement of goods, services and capital along with the fisheries and agriculture chapters and chapters on transport, customs union and external trade,'' the source told Reuters.
The accession talks are divided into 35 chapters dealing with detailed policy issues. Turkey has so far provisionally concluded just one chapter -- science and research -- and Cyprus has blocked the opening of any further detailed negotiations.
The European Commission was due to hold a news conference at 1100 GMT on the future handling of accession negotiations with Turkey, the EU executive said in statement.
