EC reprimands Karnataka chief minister

New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) The Election Commission today reprimanded Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy for violation of model code of conduct by announcing a scheme for providing loans in Mysore district.

In Chamundeshwari assembly constituency, a by-poll is scheduled for December 4. On November 20, Mr Kumaraswamy had announced the Swayam Udyog Yojana for providing loans to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes of Rs 5,000 for each applicant.

Yesterday, the EC had issued a show cause notice to Mr Kumaraswamy on charges of not acting on complaints about the violation of the model code of conduct in Chamundeshwari assembly constituency.

Former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the political bete noire of Mr Kumaraswamy's father H.D. Deve Gowda, is contesting the by-poll on a Congress ticket.
