Dr V Prakash to succeed Dr R A Mashelkar as DG CSIR
New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) Padma Shri award winner Dr V Prakash will take over as the Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) from January 1, 2007.
Dr Prakash, currently, Director, Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore, will succeed Dr R A Mashelkar.
Regarded as an outstanding food technologist, Dr Prakash is credited with contributing to bringing together the growers and small entrepreneurs to focus on economic upliftment and employment generation by promoting adaptable technologies.
He is internationally recognised for his research contributions in the area of Structural biology and Physical biochemistry of proteins and enzymes.
Dr Prakash is also the President-elect of International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST) for 2008=2010.
Among the recognitions, he has received includes the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in the field of Biological Sciences and the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award in 1996 and the FICCI Award in 2001.
