Cong urges EC to ensure free, fair bypoll in Karnataka
New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) A delegation of senior Congress leaders today approached the Election Commission to complain that the Karnataka Government was misusing the Government machinery in the by-election to Chamundeshwari Assembly seat.
The delegation which consisted of Mr Moti Lal Vora, Mr Ashok Gehlot, Mr Mukul Wasnik and Mr Ahmad Patel, political secretary to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, urged the Election Commission to ensure a free and fair election in Chamundeshwari.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramiah, who recently quit JD-S and joined the Congress, is contesting as the Congress candidate from Chamundeshwari.
Mr Vora told UNI that they told the Election Commission in a memorandum that the JD-S-led Government in Karnataka and the district administration were openly misusing the machinery to boost the prospects of the JD-S candidate.
The Assembly by-election is scheduled to be held on December four.
