Cong hails reduction in prices of fuel

New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) The Congress today hailed the cut in petrol and diesel price effected by the Government and said despite the unwarranted disruption of the House caused by the Opposition, Petroleum Minister Murli Deora was able to place the details in the House.

''The Congress is happy that the price reduction would benefit the common man,'' party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said, adding the Government has responded within a short time of the international price of crude oil coming down.

Claiming that the previous NDA Government had increased the petrol price 33 times, of kerosene five times and of diesel 34 times, he said that against this, the UPA Government had increased the petrol price on ten occasions and diesel three times. He also claimed that nowhere in the world was kerosene so cheap as in India.

Mr Singhvi also pointed out that in August last when the international price of petrol had increased to 75 dollars, the Government had not effected any increase in the price.
