Colombo-based University honours Philanthropist

Chennai, Nov 29: Having created two world records, while serving the Indian Army, K P Ramaraja, hailing from Tamil Nadu, has turned a philanthropist to receive honours from a Colombo-based University.

A native of Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district in Tamil Nadu, Mr Ramaraja, was conferred ''Doctor of Science'', a honorary doctorate, by ''The Open International University for Complementary Medicines'', based in Colombo, in recognisition of his achievements in humanitarian services and merits of excellence.

Displaying the Doctorate certificate and the Medallion to newspersons here, Mr Ramaraja, popularly known as ''Kuwait'' Raja, for being an industrialist in the country, said the University, on its own evaluated the humanitarian services he had rendered and conferred the award.

''In the last four and a half years, I have helped the poor and downtrodden to the tune of about Rs 18.50 crore and I am doing this service without any publicity,'' he said.

He said he ''never aspired for any recognition or publicity as I strongly believe in the saying..what your right hand does, your left hand should not know.'' The moment he started earning money after floating a Logistics and Infrastructure and construction services company in Kuwait, he had decided to share his wealth with the poor and help the needy.
