Chhattisgarh not against Polavaram
Hyderabad, Nov 29 (UNI) Demanding a fresh survey of the proposed Polavaram project which posed a danger to more than 13 villages and 4000 families in his state, Chief Minister Raman Singh today said his government was, however, not against the irrigation project.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Singh said around 150 sq km area would be affected with the construction of the project on Godavari river by the Andhra Pradesh government in Chhattigarh.
There is a need to conduct a fresh survey on the proposed irrigation project which could also affect areas in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and Maharashtra.
Stating that a survey of areas of the project which faced the danger of being submerged was conducted in the early 1970's, he said ''we asked the Centre to prepare a new policy for the Polavaram project.'' UNI AP VV LL BD1615
