BSP to begin UP assembly election campaign tomorrow

Lucknow, Nov 29 (UNI) The Bahujan Samaj Party will launch its election campaign for the 2007 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls tomorrow by burning Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav in-effigy at all district headquarters in the state.

The agitational programme will counter efforts of other political parties, including the SP, to term BSP as 'anti-Muslim'. It will also allege a high-level conspiracy to implicate BSP president Mayawati in the Taj Heritage Corridor (THC) case after the Supreme Court disallowed the CBI plea to give a clean chit to her.

A senior BSP leader said here that tomorrow's agitational programme would be the election kick-off for the party, highlighting the over three-year-old ''misrule'' of the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led government.

''We have asked party workers to hold peaceful demonstration before burning the CM's effigy at all the district headquarters,'' the leader added.

Party leaders have been deputed at different places to coordinate and supervise the agitational programme.

Meanwhile, BSP is facing a revolt in west UP, after party MP Shahid Akhlaq left the party after his relatives were not assured ticket in the assembly poll. Earlier, another MP Esham Singh was expelled from the party for the same reason.
