Bike lifter consumes cyanide, dies

Kancheepuram, Nov 29 (UNI) A notorious motorcycle lifter allegedly committed suicide last night by consuming cyanide in front of his family and relatives at Acharapakkam here.

Police said Abbas (38), a native of Poonamalle near Chennai, was involved in several motorcycle thefts and arrested several times for his crimes.

He was even detained under the Goondas Act for sometime. Last night, Abbas telephoned his wife Jeevitha on his mobile and reportedly told her of his plans to commute to Acharapakkam and commit suicide as he felt ashamed of himself.

Jeevitha and relatives immediately rushed to Acharapakkam and waited for him at the market where Abbas arrived and consumed cyanide.

They immediately rushed him to hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Superintendent of Police Amalraj rushed to the spot this morning for an inquiry.
