BHEL mulls investment in NE power projects
Aizawl, Nov 29 (UNI) Eyeing the huge hydro-electric market in the country, Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd (BHEL) has expressed willingness to invest in the northeastern power sector.
BHEL has offered the investment proposal to NE states through the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprise saying that if any state in the region invites them, it would be favourably looked into.
The ministry has already conveyed BHEL's interest to the states and has mentioned that if any state in the region seeks help, there will be no dearth of finance, official sources here today said.
''BHEL is eyeing the huge hydro-electric market in the country and over 35,000 MW of power has been projected in the region, with public sector giants like NHPC, NTPC to private players like Reliance Industries making a dash to the Northeast,'' the sources said.
BHEL has launched a massive expansion project, setting up a Hydro Modernisation and Augmentation Scheme to supplement its production capacity, making an additional investment of Rs 180 crore, they added.
BHEL is competiting with French, Chinese and the US companies at present, which have started consolidating presence in India.
