Asom BJP unit demands sacking of state government

New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) The Asom unit of the BJP today demanded the immediate sacking of the Tarun Gogoi-led Asom government as it had ''totally failed to protect the life and property of the people of the state''.

Addressing a press conference here, newly-elected state party chief Ramen Deka said the Centre should also impose President's rule in the state to protect the interests of the people.

He said the state's law and order machinery had broken down and the entry of ''illegal migrants from across the border had become the order of the day''.

There is a sharp rise in the number of cases related to molestation, rape, kidnappings and murder but the Congress-led state government is totally unmindful of these happenings, he claimed.

The recent bomb blasts at the Guwahati railway station which claimed several lives has clearly exposed the fact that ''Bangladeshis are working as the carriers of illegal arms, ammunition and explosives'', Mr Deka said.

''This could not be possible without the connivance of the local authorities like the police so they can not be free from suspicion,'' he said.

The BJP leader said in the forthcoming Panchayat elections in the state, the party will work with all those parties and independent candidates which want to keep the Congress, Communists and communal forces at bay.

Mr Deka said the Centre should immediately resume talks without any pre-conditions with the underground leaders of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) in order to establish lasting peace in the northeast.
