All students' union polls conform to Lyngdoh Committee report: HC
Allahabad, Nov 29 (UNI) In a significant ruling, Allahabad High Court has directed that in case any students' union election was due in Uttar Pradesh, the same may be held observing guidelines in the Lyngdoh Committee report.
Passing this order, Justice S N Srivastava said the Lyngdoh Committee report had already been accepted by the Supreme Court and it could not be ignored.
The court observed in case any difficulty was found by the universities, they will showcause in the HC on December 18.
The report was submitted by Lyngdoh Committee headed by former chief election commissioner James Michael Lyngdoh to the SC for laying down guidelines for holding students' union elections all over India.
The report was accepted by the apex court for enforcement all over the country.
The court passed this order on a writ petition filed by Prashant Shukla, a student of Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj University, Kanpur.
The petitioner had challenged rule 2 of the varsity's code of conduct, which provides a candidate has to file an affidavit in students' election, that he is not involved/convicted in any criminal case.
