AIADMK, MDMK stage walk out

Madurai, Nov 29 (UNI) Violation of convention, followed by a walk out by opposition AIADMK and its ally MDMK marked the inaugural session of the City Corporation here today.

Contrary to the established convention, Mayor Thenmozhi Gopinathan dispensed with 'question time' and did not allowed the Opposition its privilege to speak first.

Instead, she announced that the session would be an ordinary one, much to the dismay of the Opposition.

Folowing this, protest erupted from the opposition councillors, including the Congress and the CPI(M).

Raising slogans against the Mayor and condemning her actions, ten members of the AIADMK and two MDMK councillors staged a walk out. Later, they tied a piece of cloth across their mouths and protested outside the Councill Hall.
