A person convicted for life in a murder case
Mumbai, Nov 29 (UNI) A local court has today convicted a person to undergo life imprisonment for murdering his friend in Vikhroli, Mumbai suburb during 2002.
Additional Sessions Judge W K Kanvarkar sentenced Santosh Joil under sction 302 for murdering his friend Tukhram Shashikant Patkar and awarded life imprisonment as well as slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 in default he has to undergo further six month imprisonment.
On August 21, 2002, accused Santosh had taken the victim to Godrej compound in Vikhroli area under the pretext of handing over the money, the former owed him. Instead of making the payment, he stabbed him to death and fled from the scene.
According to prosecution, the accused and the victim along with seven others had formed a small chit fund in which the victim had to get Rs 4,500 from the accused. After having persued the matter many times, he finally agreed to make the payment at the Vikhroli area where he had stabbed him to death.
On the basis of the information provided by two persons, who saw them going together in the fateful day, led the arrest of the accused person on August 23, 2002.
The judge had sentenced him on the basis of his confession to the crime, medical report, circumstantial evidence and seventeen witness in the case.
