Uttar Pradesh score 239 for nine

Jamshedpur, Nov 28 (UNI) Ridding on a fine 75 by opener Akash Verma, Uttar Pradesh reached a respectable total of 239 for nine in their first innings against Maharashtra on the opening day of the three-day Cooch Behar trophy Elite group A tie at the Keenan stadium here today.

Winning the toss, UP decided to bat first on a good batting strip and opener Akash played sensibly in one end but Maharashtra pacer Aditya Dole bowled beautifully to scalp four wickets conceding 59 runs.

Akash, however, had to depart after playing a patient knock which was studded with eight fours. Ankit Tewari and Abhishek Tewari also contributed handsomely scoring 30 and 26 runs respectively.

Another pacer Srikant Mundhe picked up three wickets conceding 52 runs while Sunil Yadav had two wickets for 38 runs.

At stumps, all rounder Mohammad Khalid and S Kashyap were batting with 32 and 2 runs respectively.
