Trains behind schedule as cold wave conditions grip Punjab

Jalandhar, Nov 28 (UNI) A sudden fall of one to three degrees in night temperatures last night has created cold wave conditions in parts of Punjab.

Jalandhar turned to be the coldest place with Adampur airport recording a minimum temperature of 3.4 Degree Celsius this morning.

The mercury recorded a sudden fall of 2.8 degrees here during the past 24 hours.

Neighbouring city of Amritsar was also reeling under severe cold spell with the mercury touching the mark of 5.4 Degree Celsius this morning, a fall of 1.8 degrees.

Ludhiana (Halwara Airport) recorded minimum temperature of 6.8 where as Pathankot recorded 7 Degree Celsius, Meanwhile, fog also affected the train traffic on the busy Delhi-Amritsar and Delhi-Jammu routes. Several long distance trains on these routes were running one to three hours behind the schedule.

Among the trains, 5707 Katihar Amritsar-Amrapalli Express was running late by 3 hours, 3049 Howrah-Amritsar Express by two and a half hours, and 2471 Mumbai-Jammu Swaraj Express by two hours. The 1057 Dadar(Mumbai)-Amritsar Express, 2919 Indore Jammu Malwa Express and 6031 Chennai Jammu Andaman Express were running one and a half hours behind the schedule, a railway spokesman said.
