SP questions role of UP Governor

New Delhi, Nov 28 (UNI) Samajwadi Party's Ramji Lal Suman today made a scathing attack on Uttar Pradesh Governor TV Rajeshwar saying he was conducting himself against the spirit of the Constitution and lowering the dignity of his post.

Making a submission on being allowed to do so by Deputy Speaker Charnjit Singh Atwal shortly before the commencement of the zero hour, Mr Suman charged that the Governor was seeking to subvert the federal structure at the behest of the Union Govenment. ''Crossing all the limits of dignity and decorum was an order of the day with him,'' he asserted.

Mr Suman said that the governor's interference in the day to day affairs of the State Government was in contravention of the decorum of the high post he was holding, adding he was seeking to block many good schemes launched by Mulaym Singh Govenment like the Kanya Vidya Yojana.

Recently, he said that the Governor had visited a riot torn area and openly criticised the role of police in handling the matter.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs P R Dasmunsi intervened to deny that the Centre had issued any instructions to the Uttar Pradesh Governor against Chief Minister Mulayam Singh. Terming Mr Suman's allegation as wrong,he said the Union Government had never issued any directions to the Governor.
