Retired CBI officer Ashok Banerjee is dead
Bangalore, Nov 28 (UNI) Retired CBI officer Ashok K Banerjee, an IPS officer of the 1955 batch, died here today following a cardiac arrest.
Mr Banerjee had served in various capacities in Uttar Pradesh and had headed the Economic Offences Wing of the CBI. He was the batch mate of National Security Advisor M K Narayanan.
He was also a member of the Jain Banerjee Commission that inquired into the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and the investigating officer of the Tihar Jail Break case in the 1990s.
A specialist in industrial security, Mr Banerjee was trained in Lancing and Michigan in the United states.
His mortal remains were cremated later in the day. Senior police officers of Karnataka and other cadres paid last tributes to the departed soul.
Mr Narayanan condoled the death of Mr Banerjee.
