NHRM making a considerable progress in Meghalaya

Shillong, Nov 28 (UNI) The National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) has made considerable progress in Meghalaya during the last one year of its inception.

State and District level Health Missions have been constituted and the Departments of Health and Family Welfare were merged.

Under the NRHM, about Rs 6.46 crore had been provided to the state, official sources said The Mission, launched in April 2005, had brought 18 states along with the North Eastern states, into the list of focused states, which have weak health indicators.

The NRHM also launched a universal access to public health services to reduce infant and maternal mortality ratio, universal access to public health services, prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases, access to integrated comprehensive primary healthcare, population stabilization, etc.

The Mission would seek to correct the health system to enable it to effectively handle increased allocations as promised under the National Common Minimum Programme and promote policies that strengthen public health management and service delivery in the country.
