NHRC approached for probe into Seelampur firing
New Delhi, Nov 28 (UNI) A Supreme Court lawyer has approached the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking CBI probe into the Seelampur police firing during the traders' bandh on September 20.
The petition has also urged the Commission to direct the Delhi Police Commissioner to register complaints against police officers involved in the incident.
Advocate Sonia Raj Sood, in the petition, appealed that adequate compensation be given to the victims of the ''police atrocities''.
''Police opened indiscriminate fire on the people who were not even part of the band called in protest against sealing,'' the petition said.
It alleged that the unarmed traders were only raising slogans and police ''fabricated the excuse that the demonstration turned violent''.
It also alleged that the police did not take the injured to hospital.
Four people were killed in police firing during the bandh on September 20 in Seelampur.
