Naveen orders inquiry into suicide of cotton farmer
Bhubaneswar, Nov 28 (UNI) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today ordered a detail inquiry into the suicide of a cotton farmer in Rayagada.
Mr Patnaik's direction came in the wake of concern expressed by Opposition members in the Orissa Assembly on the suicide of one Aalu Sheshadri, a cotton farmer of Suri village under Kolnara block in Rayagada district.
Congress Deputy leader Narashingha Mishra raised the issue in the State Assembly through point of order, demanded that the House should be informed about the tragic incident.
A release by the Chief Minister's office said the Agriculture Minister along with Special Secretary Agriculture department and cotton experts would visit the village tomorrow for an on the spot investigation into the suicide of the cotton farmer and submit their report.
This was the second incident in the state during the last fortnight.
Earlier another cotton farmers of Bolangir had committed suicide.
The issue rocked the state Assembly with the Opposition criticising the state government to ignore the plight of the cotton farmers, who were under severe stress for loss in the cotton production.
Report from Rayagada said Aalo Sheshadri(23) committed suicide by consuming pesticides yesterday after he failed to clear loan due to heavy loss in the cotton production on his field.
