MRW expresses concern over 'atrocities' on minorities

Kozhikode, Nov 28 (UNI) Kerala-based Human Rights Organisation Minority Rights Watch (MRW) today expressed concern over the alleged police atrocities on minorities in the state.

Talking to newspersons here, MRW chairman S Shanavas and general secretary M K Harikumar said many innocent Muslim youths were taken into custody on mere suspicions by the police and later released after victimising them under their custody.

Citing example they said the youths arrested in connection with the twin blasts in the city were later set free as there was no evidence proving their role in the incident. The police force had miserably failed to make any headway in the case.

In another instance, five youth, who were arrested on August 15 for their alleged connection with the SIMI were later released on bail as the police failed to chargesheet them in the absence of evidence, MRW leaders pointed out.

In order to highlight their grievances, the MRW would conduct a meeting of the victims here on November 30 to be attended by leading rights activists, they added.
