Misinterpretation leads to tension in Mount Abu region
Palanpur, Gujarat, Nov 28 (UNI) The controversy and tension between thee Gujarat and Rajasthan Governments over the latter's notification of declaring the entire Mount Abu region as a 'WildLife Sanctuary' has turned out to be nothing but a misinterpretation of its notification dated October 4.
A high-ranking officer of the Gujarat Government, on condition of anonymity, told UNI today that the Rajasthan Government's notification, stating the entire tourist destination as a notified wildlife sanctuary, was mis-interpreted and wrong translation of certain words from English to Hindi created resentment among the locals.
As a result, local people, mainly the tribals, who were living in close ties for centuries with the area spread over the two states, had observed a bandh in the entire region for almost five days last week. However, as the smoke cleared, life has returned back to normal in the region.
The Government officer said the translation of the notification from English to Hindi created confusion in the minds of the people about th fate of their social and economic activities in the region.
Thus, political parties and people protested against the Rajasthan government's move which they saw as an attempt to prevent Gujaratis from carrying out commercial activities in the neighbouring state.
