Manipur government honours women boxing champions

Imphal, Nov 28 (UNI) The Manipur government has decided to honour M C Mary Kom and L Sarita Devi, gold medal winners in the fourth world boxing championship held in New Delhi recently.

Officials said they would be offered the posts of Assistant Directors (Promotion) in the Youth Affairs and Sports Department.

Earlier, both of them were serving as Sub Inspectors in the state police department.

Mary had been provided with a government quarter, whereas, Sarita would be alloted soon, officials said.

They also added that the matter was discussed during the Cabinet meeting held at Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh's office yesterday.

Mary Kom has won the world championship title three times consecutively in the 46 Kg weight category, while, L Sarita had won the gold in the 52 Kg category for the first time.
