India, Egypt ink MoU on ICT

Chennai, Nov 28 (UNI) Reflecting the desire of the two countries to work together, India and Egypt today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for bilateral cooperation in ICT sector.

The MoU was signed between Union Minister for Information and Communication Technology Dayanidhi Maran and his Egyptian Counterpart, Dr Tarek Kamel, during the Ministerial-level meeting between the two nations here.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Maran said India would share its expertise with Egypt in the field of e-governance, information security, capacity building, IT policy and IT industry promotion, telecom sector, e-posts and setting up of IT Parks.

The MoU would go a long way in achieving significant success and synergise the potential to promote investment, trade and development in ICT in both the countries.

To a question, he said Joint Working Group would be constituted between both the countries. It would meet once in three months to carry the initiative forward. The Ministers would meet on alternate years.

In his address, Dr Kamel recalled the historical and cultural relations between the two countries since 1950s and 60s and said India and Egypt should work together for developing G2G and B2B relationships in ICT, education and healthcare sector.

Referring to the phenomenal success achieved by India in Wimax and Wi-Fi technology, he said Egypt would like to replicate it in his country where there was only one private telecom operator - Telecom Egypt.

He said both the countries can work together in utilising ICT in education and health sectors.
