Erstwhile Jharkhand government's MoUs only on paper: Mahato

Mumbai, Nov 28 (UNI) Jharkhand deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahato today said that although the erstwhile BJP-JD (U) government in his state had signed 54 MoUs with various big companies, they had remained unimplemented.

The erstwhile government had signed MoUs with steel giant Laxminivas Mittal, Jindal, and Essar, among others, he said.

''Our government will review the MoUs and if they are found viable, we will go ahead with them,'' Mr Mahato said. He was in the city to address a meeting of dalits and tribals, organised by Republican Party of India President Ramdas Athawale.

''We are coming out with new industrial and rehabilitation policies,'' he informed.

He said the proposed Forest Policy of the UPA Government will benefit the tribals of Jharkhand.

Meanwhile, Mr Athawale, while speaking on the occasion, said he will join the December 4 ''morcha'', organised jointly by various dalit factions, in Nagpur to condemn the Khairlanji massacre in which four members of a ''dalit'' family were killed by Khairlanji villagers in Bhandara district. The ''morcha'' would be taken to the Vidhan Bhavan where the Winter Session of the State Legislature will commence on the same day.
