Don't play politics over dead bodies: Advani
New Delhi, Nov 28: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani today asked the government not to discriminate among victims while dispensing compensation to affected people of all previous riots.
Addressing the BJP parliamentary party in the Parliament House premises, he took exception to the government disbursing Rs 7,00,000 to victims of the post-Godhra riots, but leaving out the victims of train burning, an incident of just three days ago. ''This kind of discriminatory politics over bodies is not good,'' he said.
The meeting was presided over by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Briefing mediapersons later, BJP Parliamentary Party Spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said that Mr Advani said that the BJP Suraksha Rally, organised on November 22, had turned out to be ''unprecedented.'' He said the BJP had sent notices to Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee seeking discussions on issues like price hike, Special Economic Zones, exploiting people by selling petroleum products at prices fixed when the crude oil used cost 78 dollars a barrel, even when the current prices were hovering around 58 dollars.
The BJP would pass a detailed resolution on Special Economic Zones in the forthcoming National Executive scheduled to be held at Lucknow on December 22,'' he said.
The party also wanted a debate on Telangana issue as the Congress not only promised creation of a new state in its election manifesto but reiterated its implementation in the Common Minimum Programme of the UPA, Prof Malhotra added.
