Cong developed country after independence: Digvijay

Morena, MP, Nov 28 (UNI) Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh today claimed that his party has been instrumental in development of the country since independence.

Addressing 'Kisan Sammelan' here yesterday, Mr Singh said Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had dreamt of prosperity in the Chambal division from Sheopur to Bhind.

As a result of his vision, Gandhi Sagar and Pratap Sagar dams were built benefiting farmers, whose houses were filled with crops, he said.

Pointing out that Harijans and tribals were given reservation during the Congress rule, the Congress leader said the BJP had always made false promises.

Talking about works done during his 10 year rule he said he gave free electricity to farmers and provided jobs to educated villagers.

Mr Singh also alleged that the BJP was hands in glove with businessmen.

He said the BJP had purchased mustard at low price in large quantity before announcing minimum support price. The mustard was then sold at a higher price.

The former Chief Minister said the Congress would fight for the cause of farmers and poor people and he was prepared to go to jail if required.

MP Sachin Pilot, former minister Rakesh Choudhary, Dr Govind Singh, Mahendra Baudh, Edal Singh Kansana and K P Singh addressed the convention. District Congress President Bhagwan Singh Tomar chaired the programme.
