Chandigarh belongs to Punjab: Amrinder

Chandigarh, Nov 28 (UNI) Reiterating his stand over Chandigarh, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today asked Haryana to build its capital somewhere else.

Talking to newspersons after the swearing-in ceremony of Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice VK Jain at Haryana Raj Bhawan here, Capt Singh said, ''Chandigarh is a part of Punjab.'' The Chief Minister said Lahore was the capital of undivided Punjab. He said it was during the tenure of Chief Minister of Greater Punjab Pratap Singh Kairon, that Chandigarh was developed and became the Capital of Punjab.

After separating from Punjab in 1966, Himachal Pradesh had its capital at Shimla, likewise Haryana should also do so, he suggested.

Denying the presence of an anti-incumbency wave in Punjab ahead of the assembly election, Capt Singh said, ''The presence of crowds during this Vikas Yatra is a clear indication that there is no such wave in Punjab.'' UNI DP PB KN1628
