BSNL to launch Triple play Broadband Services
Kolkata, Nov 28: State owned telecom operator, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), has planned to launch triple play broadband services by January 2007 in Kolkata.
The triple play broadband service, which include voice, video and Internet, would first be introduced in Pune and Chennai, followed by Kolkata and Bangalore.
BSNL sources said today the company is currently planning to make multiple partnerships with content service providers.
Sources said in a bid to provide on-demand and region-specific video services, the telecom operator has entered into partnership with various companies.
However, tariff details were not declared, BSNL sources said adding that the base tariff would be below Rs 500, which would be increased later, depending on the needs of the consumer.
BSNL would launch the triple play broadband network in major cities of the country by the end of 2007.
BSNL sources also announced that its prepaid account card system, which is now used only for PCOs, would be available for landline users soon.
The user friendly recharge cards for landline users would be available in denominations of Rs 500, Rs 1,000 Rs 3,500, Rs 5,000, Rs 9,000 and Rs 10,000 and would help BSNL customers to control his phone bills and curb unwanted calls.
The first of these prepaid cards for domestic landline users would most likely be introduced in Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
