Boxing champion welcomed in Mizoram
Aizawl, Nov 28 (UNI) Jenny R. Lalremliani, India's new women's world boxing champion in the 63 kg category, was welcomed by the people of Mizoram last evening in the capital city.
After a brief function at the airport, the boxer was escorted by a long motorcade towards the city and greeted by state government and well-wishers in a public gathering near Civil Secretariat here.
State's Home Minister Tawnluia handed over her promotion order from Inspector to Deputy Superintendent of Police.
All sports organisation, including Mizoram Olympic Association, Mizoram Boxing Fedration, different government departments, church leaders and Inter-State Maxi Cab Service Assoication handed the champion bouquets, garlands and citations in the function.
Speaking on the occasion, state Sports Minister Z H Ropuia said that Mizoram government would recommend Jenny for the Arjuna Award and also be given a substantial cash incentive for the success.
Jenny was originally a hockey player, who was persuaded by boxing coach R Biakliana in 2000 to take up this sports, and started her career this year.
