Bombs kill 4 near Baghdad hospital - police

BAGHDAD, Nov 28 (Reuters) Two car bombs close to west Baghdad's main Yarmouk hospital killed four people and wounded 40 today, a source at Baghdad police headquarters said.

Police and Interior Ministry sources said at least one of the bombs targeted a police patrol near the hospital and killed a police officer. Several police were also among the wounded.

A security officer at the medical centre, clearly shaken, said one blast went off close to the hospital's mortuary.

Yarmouk hospital has taken in many thousands of victims of Baghdad's violence over the past three years, though years of economic sanctions under Saddam Hussein and subsequent chaos in the Iraqi capital mean it is poorly equipped and understaffed.
