Agitation against Khairlanji killings should stop: Deshmukh

Chimur, Maharashtra, Nov 28 (UNI) The continuing protests against the killing of four members of a Dalit family by villagers in Khairlanji should stop since all the demands made by the agitators had been met, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said here today.

Speaking to newspersons shortly after addressing an election rally at the Circus Ground this afternoon, Mr Deshmukh said the government had accepted the demand for handing over the probe into the Khairlanji killings to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), creating a fast-track court to try the case, appointing a special public prosecutor for the trial and compensation and rehabilitation of Bhaiyyalal Bhotmange, the lone survivor in the family after the gruesome murders in September. The agitation should, therefore, end, he said.

The Chief Minister appealed to the Dalit organisations to cancel plans to take out a 'morcha' to the Council Hall in Nagpur on December 4, the first day of the winter session of the State Legislature, to protest the killings.
