A new family court to be started in Tripura

Agartala, Nov 28 (UNI) A new family court will started functioning in Tripura to ensure speedy settlement of disputes over women related issues.

Inaugurating anti-dowry week to create awarness among citizens about the rights of women in the society recently, state Social Welfare Minister Manik Dey today declared that the new family court, in addition to the existing two, would be established at Kailashahar in North Tripura District.

He further underlined the need for women empowerment to prevent dowry and other harassments and said the law enforcement would not solve the purpose.

''Only economic empowerment of women will prevent the menace,'' he said adding that the Left Front Government in the state is taking all possible steps in this regard.

He further said the state government has decided to increase the number of women police from 8 to 10 percent to tackle crime against women effectively.

''All police stations would have separate women's desk to deal with crime against women and all cases related to dowry harassments will be registered and promt action taken,'' assured the Minister.

Agartala Municipal Council Chairperson Shankar Das was also present on the ocassion.
