VHP(Gujarat) flays Centre for 'Muslims only package'

Ahmedabad, Nov 27 (UNI) Working president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Gujarat, Dilipbhai Trivedi today said the UPA government in its continuing appeasement policy and in view of forthcoming UP assembly elections has declared a Rs 7 lakh compensation package to the next of kin for the Godhra riot victims of a particular community.

''The UPA government, however, has overlooked the Hindus who too were victims in the Godhra riots. This is an insult and injustice to the Hindu samaj,''Mr Trivedi said and demanded that a suitable package be given to the Hindus who too were victims of Muslim violence.

''This calculated injustice to the Hindus will not be tolerated by the Hindu samaj which is bound to teach a lesson in the forthcoming elections to state assemblies,'' he said.

''Since our nation is a secular state as per our Constitution, giving a community compensation package based on religious affiliation is totally against the spirit of the Constitution,'' Mr Trivedi said. The Central government is bound by oath to respect the Constitution in both letter and spirit, he added.
