Unorganised workers hold demo
Vijayawada, Nov 27 (UNI) About 500 workers from the unorganised sector belonging to various associations affiliated to the CITU today laid siege to the sub-collector's office demanding a solution to their grievances.
The workers squatted before the gate and raised slogans against the 'anti-labour' policies of the government.
Addressing the gathering, CITU State President R Sudha Bhaskar alleged every government had neglected the over one crore workers in the unorganised sector who were facing a number of problems.
Even Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy failed to keep up his poll promise to solve the workers' problems, he claimed.
He demanded the government withdraw forthwith the retirement proposal of Anganwadi workers as per Memo 862, recognise the village helpers as class four employees and payment of ex-gratia to building workrs, hamalis and rickshaw pullers if they were injured or lost life during work among others.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to sub-collector in support of their demands.
