Tainted cops remanded to Judicial Custody

Mumbai, Nov 27 (UNI) A special ACB court today remanded two police officers to Judicial Custody till December Six for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from an undertrial, while he was in police custody.

Suspended Police Inspector Prasant Yashwant Pandit and PSI Jagdish Babu Giri of N M Joshi Marg Police station were remanded to Judicial Custody by Additional Session Court Judge P N Deshmukh.

Defence advocate Abbad Ponda had moved a bail application on behalf of his client.

The ACB sleuths had allegedly caught the duo red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from an undertrial while in police custody. Undertrial Ravikumar Gutti had been implicated in a cheating, conspiracy and criminal breach of trust case.

Meanwhile, the said police officers allegedly demanded bribe of Rs 50,000 from the accused for his release. The amount was later reduced to Rs 20,000 after negotiations.
