Surana appoints consultants for new steel plant

Chennai, Nov 27: Surana Industries Limited (SIL), leading manufacturer of steel, today appointed consultants to execute their New Integrated Steel Plant in Raichur, Karnataka.

The company signed an agreement with leading consultants M N Dastur&CO for the captive power plant, MITEC for the Steel Melting Shop (SMS), Bilaspur-based ECIS for the DRI plant and Richardson&Crudas (1972) Ltd for pollution control, a company release here said.

The consultants would play a vital role in engineering designs and assist the company in technical and commercial evaluation and offer integrated design and engineering consultancy services for a wide range of projects.

The Raichur steel plant would have the capacity to produce 128,000 tonne Sponge Iron, 136,700 tonne Steel Melting Shop and 132,500 tonne of Rolling Mill annually. The plant would have 30 MW captive power plants. Karnataka Government had provided 164 acre land in Raichur for this project, out of 300 acre promised. Mr Dineshchand Surana, SIL Managing Director said, 'India is emerging as a global hub for manufacturing and outsourcing of auto and automobile components coupled with capacity expansion by all the major auto players. We feel setting this project will give us a good platform to leverage this opportunity.'
