New Delhi, Nov 27 (UNI) The Supreme Court today stayed till further order the proceedings pending in Madhya Pradesh High Court challenging the election of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

A bench comprising Justices K G Balakrishnan and D K Jain also issued notices to the respondent Rajkumar Patel.

The state CM in his petition has challenged the High Court judgment in which his application for quashing the election petition was dismissed. Mr Chouhan has contended that the election petition filed against him was politically motivated and has been filed to create a crisis in the state.

Defeated Congress candidate from Budhni, Rajkumar Patel, in his election petition in the Madhya Pradesh High Court has alleged that Mr Chouhan has exploited the communal sentiments during the bypoll besides misusing the government machinery and hence his election is liable to be set aside.
