Podium finish expected in tenpin bowling in Asian Games

Bangalore, Nov 27 (UNI) India is hoping for a medal in tenpin bowling at the Doha Asian Games, beginning next week, thanks to an intensive training session under Asian gold medallist from Malaysia Lee Poh recently.

Speaking to UNI here today, Dr Ajay Singh, one of the six-member men's team representing the country in individual and team events, said the rigorous one-month training under Lee had boosted their confidence. India expected stiff competition from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines and South Korea, he added.

Dr Singh, who had represented the country at the 2003 World Tenpin Bowling Championship at Kuala Lumpur, said that thanks to the efforts of the Tenpin Bowling Federation of India and other State associations, the game was becoming more popular among the youth, especially in the urban areas.

The Indian team, comprising National Champion Srinath Pobbathi, Sethu Madhavan, Girish Gaba, Vijap Punjabi, Dr Ajay Singh (all from Karnataka) and Dinesh Gunashekaran (Tamil Nadu), would leave for Doha on Wednesday.
