Islamabad, Nov 27 (UNI) Pakistan today welcomed the increasing support by Kashmiri leaders of its proposals on good governance and demilitarisation in Jammu and Kashmir.

''This (support) is a good sign,'' Foreign ministry spokeswoman Tasneem Aslam said at a press briefing here today while commenting on the reported expression of support to Pakistan's proposal of good governance by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti.

She said Pakistan's proposals found resonance among Kashmiris, adding that this is not the first time that a statement expressing support to these proposals was made.

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, who has been calling for an "out-of-the-box" solution of the outstanding Kashmir issue, had first made the proposals late last year, and had said that these options could lead to the settlement of the problem, which bedevilled relations between the two South Asian neighbours since they achieved independence from the British rule in 1947.

The two countries are set to launch the third cycle of their peace talks in January next year to discuss all issues including Siachen and Sir Creek amid repeated calls by Islamabad that the talks should now focus on conflict resolution especially in the wake of the progress achieved in the efforts aimed to build mutual trust between Pakistan and India, which resumed the peace process in February 2004.
