Oscar, Jishnu, Neha move up in junior badminton

Chandigarh, Nov 27 (UNI) Oscar Bansal of Chandigarh continued his winning spree as he shocked Kaushik Paul of West Bengal 21-18, 17-21, 21-10 in the pre-quarter final match of the XXXI Junior National Badminton championships at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex in Panchkula today.

Oscar excelled in net play and packed power behind his smashes which at times rooted his opponent. Displaying his footwork, Oscar frustrated Kaushik in the third game to win the match which lasted 43 minutes.

With a ranking of 20th, Oscar in a third round match also upset fifth seed Amey Joshi (Rly) 21-18, 21-18. It was the first entry of Oscar, a trainee of Sports Authority of India coach Surinder Mahajan in the junior category.

Top seed Jishnu Sanyal of Air India had an easy third round against Vipul Saini of Chandigarh 21-6, 21-15.

Top ranked Neha Pandit of Air India outplayed Purnika (Chd) 21-8, 21-8 in the girls third round match.
