MDMK MPs, Vaiko on day-long fast to oppose Rajapakse's visit

New Delhi, Nov 27 (UNI) MDMK General Secretary Vaiko and his party leaders observed a fast here today to protest against the visit of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse who plans to seek joint patrolling of Palk Straits by the Navies of India and the island nation.

MDMK MPs S Ganesh and Gingee N Ramachandran were among the party leaders who took part in the hunger strike at Jantar Mantar here to oppose any Defence ties between the two countries.

Sri Lanka was trying to misguide India and take assistance for a greater military offensive against the LTTE). India should totally reject any demand for Defence assistance, Vaiko said while addressing his supporters.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and Akali Dal leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa visited Mr Vaiko to express solidarity with his cause.
